Signs You Need a Professional Landscape Designer

Most design calls start with one of these situations. If two or more sound familiar, the property is telling you it needs a real plan, not another round of guess-and-buy at the nursery.

If any of these sound like your property, call (503) 936-8910. We will walk the site, listen to what you have in mind, and tell you honestly whether you need a full redesign or a smaller targeted plan.

Our Landscape Design and Development Services

From a single garden bed redesign to a full design-build landscape, here is what we handle. Each one can be a standalone project or part of a complete property transformation.

Scaled site drawings, plant schedules, hardscape layouts, lighting and irrigation plans, all built around your property. Our landscape designing services start with the site itself, not a template. You see the full design and pricing before any construction begins.

Garden design services for ornamental beds, foundation plantings, perennial gardens, and low-maintenance native plantings. We choose plants suited to Portland’s wet winters, dry summers, and clay-heavy soils so the garden actually thrives instead of getting replanted every spring.

Patios, pergolas, fire pits, seating areas, and full outdoor rooms. If you have been researching how to design outdoor living spaces, we start with the same question every time: how will you actually use it? Outdoor living space designs follow the use case, not the other way around.

Full outdoor kitchen design covering layout, appliance placement, gas and water rough-in, counter materials, and weather protection. Our outdoor kitchen designer plans for Oregon weather, so the kitchen looks right in July and still works in February. Whether you want a built-in grill island or a full outdoor cooking suite, we design outdoor kitchen builds that match the rest of the landscape.

Fountains, recirculating water features, ponds, and streams. As one of the experienced water feature installation companies in the Portland metro, we handle the design, plumbing, electrical, and stonework as one job. Water feature installation is built into the larger landscape plan so it looks like part of the property, not an add-on.

Once the plan is approved, our crew builds it. Design-build landscaping means the same team that drew the plan installs it. Site preparation, grading, hardscape, irrigation, drainage, planting, and lighting, all on one schedule with one written scope. Design build landscape work eliminates the gap between the designer and the contractor where most projects fall apart.

How We Work

How a Landscape Design Project Works

The most expensive landscape mistake we see is moving to construction before the design is right. Here is how we prevent that on every project, from a garden refresh to a full outdoor kitchen build.

You call, we schedule a site walk

Call (503) 936-8910 or request a quote online. We ask enough questions to understand what you have in mind, then schedule a site visit at your property, usually within a few business days.

On-site evaluation, written design proposal

We walk the property, measure, photograph, check slope and drainage, identify existing trees and features worth keeping, and talk through how you want to use the space. Within a short turnaround, you get a written design proposal covering scope, design fee, and an estimate for construction. No verbal quotes.

Design approval, construction, and final walk-through

Once the design is approved, our licensed crew schedules construction. You get a project manager, a clear timeline, and one accountable contractor from day one through final walk-through. Optional ongoing maintenance is available once the landscape is installed.

Plants and Materials We Specialize In

Three decades in the Pacific Northwest has taught us what holds up here. We design and install with materials chosen for Oregon’s climate, soils, and growing season.

This is the substance that separates a plan that looks good on paper from one that still works after two Oregon winters.

How Our Landscape Design Pricing Works

Most property owners want a number before they call. We understand that, but giving you a flat “landscape design costs $X” without seeing the property would be dishonest. Two yards the same size can need completely different projects. Here is how we actually price the work.

Three things drive the price on any landscape design and development project:

  • Project scope. A garden bed redesign is a different conversation than a full backyard with hardscape, irrigation, lighting, and an outdoor kitchen
  • Materials selected. Standard pavers cost less than natural stone. Annuals cost less than mature ornamental trees. We give you options at different price points
  • Site conditions. Grading needs, drainage repair, existing hardscape removal, and wetland or permitting requirements all affect the budget

What you will not pay for:

  • Hidden design fees that appear later in the construction quote
  • Verbal estimates that change once work starts
  • Pressure to add features you do not actually want

If you want a rough idea before we visit, call (503) 936-8910. Describe your property and what you want to accomplish, and we can usually give you a ballpark over the phone with no obligation.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the size of the property, the materials, and the scope. Smaller front-yard redesigns can run a few thousand dollars. Full backyard design-build projects with hardscape, irrigation, lighting, and outdoor living features run significantly higher. We provide a written quote after the site visit so you know exactly what you are committing to.

The design phase typically takes two to four weeks. Construction depends on scope. A simple installation can wrap in a week. Large design-build projects with hardscape, irrigation, and significant planting often run four to eight weeks. We give you a realistic timeline in the proposal before any work starts.

Design-build is almost always smoother. With one team handling design and construction, there is no finger-pointing between the designer and the contractor when something needs adjustment in the field. The person who drew the plan is on-site while it gets built. Separate firms can work, but they cost more in coordination time and usually take longer to finish.

Yes. During the site walk, we identify mature trees, healthy shrubs, and existing hardscape worth keeping. A good design works around what is already there instead of starting from a clean slate. It usually saves money and gives the new landscape an established look from day one.

Yes. Outdoor kitchen design and water feature installation are both built into our design-build process. They can be standalone projects or integrated into a larger landscape plan. Either way, the rough-in, materials, and finishes are coordinated with the rest of the project.

Yes. We hold Oregon License #100592 and carry general liability and workers’ compensation insurance on every project. Proof of insurance is available on request before work begins.

Yes. The initial site visit and consultation are free. We walk your property, talk through your goals, and outline next steps with no obligation. Call (503) 936-8910 to schedule.
